Joyce Tilley Nagel was born in Buffalo, NY, received a BS in Advertising Design from Rochester Institute of Technology and an MA in Printmaking from Wayne State University. She has worked as a freelance graphic designer. Joyce is known as an enthusiastic, knowledgeable teacher with a sensitive approach to drawing, printmaking, and oil and pastel painting.


She is a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America, a Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society and has received many awards including a Gold Addy for illustration from the Savannah Art Directors. Her work is in Northwestern Hospital, United Airlines in Chicago, Melhado Flynn Association, Anchor Bank in SC, Wachovia Bank and Compass Group in NC, and in private collections.


Joyce and her husband, Don, a retired advertising art supervisor, teach at the Art Academy of Hilton Head Art League and have made several group painting trips to France and Italy, teaming up to teach duo pastel workshops. Joyce has demonstrated her under painting technique on the steps of Notre Dame Cathedral, the garden at Giverny, the square at Rouen and in Nairobi, Kenya.
